And then… Argentario Sailing week

Skylark has won the 1st race of Argentario Sailing Week by a staggering 5 minutes on Corrected Time leading the Q Class racing yacht Leonore helmed by Italian AC veteran Mauro Pellaschier.

Skylark started at the pin end of the line beneath Leonore and the two yachts lead the fleet into the shore by Porto Santo Stefano enjoying more breeze. Skylark dipped the elegant 12m Vanity at the top mark and three long reaches ensued, culminating in a spinnaker reach to the finish.

A fantastic week of racing followed where Skylark won her Class retaining two 1st places after discard – was presented the Class Winners Trophy – but due to an anomaly in the way the results are calculated, the Black Label Panerai watch was presented to Leonore.

PUGS Regatta 2013

Skylark of 1937 has flown to victory in the annual PUGS Regatta which was held this year off Saint-Tropez. Despite valiant challenges by longstanding PUGites Bob Geldof, Roger Taylor and Commodore Tim Hoare competing aboard the larger sailing yachts Tiger Lily, Alexa and the modern canting keel cruiser/racer Shamlor – Tara Getty’s Skylark showed her vintage pedigree and racing prowess by out sailing her competitors with the experienced yachtsman Prince Pavlos of Greece at her helm.

Voiles d’Antibes 2013

The light winds and sloppy seas at the Panerai event in Antibes this week proved a challenge for Skylark. The lighter faster Q Class yachts helmed by America’s Cup veterans Bruno Trouble and Mauro Pellaschier were never in reach by any of the classic fleet, at times finishing over 30 minutes ahead of their competitors. These day racing boats are unmatched until the breeze gets stronger when they begin to struggle. Skylark finished a credible 5th overall – leading S&S yawl with Stormy Weather in 7th, Manitou in 8th and Comet in 10th.
