September in the Principality of Monaco is not known for its great sailing conditions – there’s always too much wind or too little – but that doesn’t stop the most beautiful classic yachts from around the Mediterranean gathering for a week of festivities and celebration at Monaco Classic Week. Yachts of all types and sizes are represented, motor boats from the tiny 12ft Albatross powerboats to the majestic Blue Bird grace the harbour. Sailing yachts range from day sailors to the massive three-masted Adix. All in all its a wonderful occasion.
The racing was challenging to say the least and with under 5 knots and a confused seaway, the conditions did not favour Skylark which is more suited to offshore conditions. The first day she placed a respectable 5th out of 25, but in races 2 & 3 she was unable to match the lighter faster lake boats. Skylark finished the event 8th Overall, despite retiring from the last race.
