Regates Royales 2015 – Day 5

Going into the final race Skylark needed a strong performance to secure her 2nd Overall for the event. After a start in around 8 knots of wind the breeze dropped significantly. Skylark sailed inshore close to Les Isles de Lerins and kept momentum going, allowing her to sail around her biggest rival the 63ft S&S Manitou. After one lap of the bay Skylark led her larger competitors to the finish and a well earned 2nd Place Overall.

The Bay of Cannes yet again provided fabulous racing conditions for Skylark and her crew. The first race was run in conditions over 20 knots of wind and the triangular course, twice round, provided a lot of work for the yacht crews as the warm Mediterranean spray flew from each yacht’s bow. Skylark finished the long day with a credible 3rd place out of 15, behind the well sailed yachts Manitou and Leonore.

Following a resounding victory in Corsica, Skylark now lies a solid 3rd in the Overall ranking of the top 50 Classic yachts for the 2015 season. Her rival Sonda heads the leaderboard followed by her arch rival Oiseau de Feu in 2nd.

Skylark has now arrived in the sunny Port du Cannes for Les Regates Royales 2015.  With strong winds forecast for the first two days it promises to be a challenging week.
