Following a winter of substantial repairs and restoration, Skylark is now back in the water and ready to race… well, nearly. She is awaiting her new mizzen mast currently in build and Classic Works near Marseilles. Once complete the mast will be shipped to Marine de Cogolin near Saint-Tropez and stepped before Voiles d’Antibes.
So it was rigged as a sloop that she competed in the annual Ladies Cup – Les Dames de Saint-Tropez 2017 – with an enthusiastic team of girls brought together by Skylark’s owner. A great day’s training was enjoyed on the day before the event but sadly the Saturday and Sunday competition was first postponed then cancelled due to adverse conditions. On the Sunday Skylark led the fleet from the port but with gusts of 40 knots hitting the fleet before the start, the race was eventually abandoned on the grounds of safety.
Skylark’s first class female crew comprised Katie Morris, Letitia Rowley, Nikki Rennie, Ocean Savage, Kos Evans, Ania Szubert, Tanya Element, Alana Hall, Carol Schneidau, Annie McKendry and Ellen Wiggin.
