Race 1 of the events saw a large swell rolling into the Golfe of Ajaccio. The course was a classic box shape, typical of racing in this area. Despite a poor start Skylark fought her way back through the fleet by tacking offshore when all the leaders stayed inshore – to the point of Skylark’s rival White Wings hit a reef. A gybe and a long spinnaker run ensued which Skylark sailed perfectly, by soaking lower and faster than the opposition making the mark in one. After 3hrs of racing Skylark crossed the line to her first victory in this event.
